Florida Fighter MMA and BJJ Forums Florida's Jessica Aguilar and Tokyo's Megumi Fujii Escape Bizarro World
Florida's Jessica Aguilar and Tokyo's Megumi Fujii Escape Bizarro World(Japanese version)The year was 2010, Aguilar and Fujii, in their bouts with Zoila Frausto were cast into another dimension through a vortex of unexplained judging phenomena. Aguilar was the first to traverse into this parallel universe. One month later Fujii would suffer the same fate. Ringside for both fights, I watched both Aguilar and Fujii become casualties to what many fans and critics believe to be the most horrid display of judging incompetency in women's MMA. Only in the paranormal realm of Bizarro World could two of the three judges find 30-27 Frausto over Aguilar and 48-47, 47-48 and 49-46 Frausto over Fujii. Meanwhile back in the real world: Some have expressed the notion that both Aguilar and Fujii should seek rematches with Zoila Frausto, who goes by her married name of Gurgel. But under real world standards both have already defeated Gurgel and neither Aguilar nor Fujii have anything to prove in that respect. Gurgel's Bizarro World victory's did nothing to bolster here rankings and furthermore Fujii and Aguilar have remained in their number 1 and number 2 spots respectively. The MMA establishment, fans, fighters and critics have made the latter very clear. Nothing against Gurgel as she has no subjection over the judges either. But if any one should ask for a rematch it should be Gurgel. For what kind of victories are these when everything that has been written describes them as "controversial"? The future will hold the same for her; as the words "controversial win" will continue to haunt any discussion on the subject.
Both Aguilar and Fujii have remained active since the Gurgel judging fiasco. Aguilar who fights out of the ATT in Coconut Creek, Florida has fought four times all ending in wins for her; defeating; Elsie Henri via armbar, Carla Esparza via split decision, Lisa Ellis-Ward via unanimous decision and Patricia Vidonic via unanimous decision. Fujii who fights out of AACC in Oomori, Tokyo has fought three times, all wins for her as well; conquering Emi Fujino via unanimous decision, Mika Nagano via unanimous decision and Karla Benitez via armbar. It is now 2012 and Bellator's CEO Bjorn Rebney, a firm supporter and believer in the legitimacy of women's MMA has brought the number one and number two strawweights in the world back from the clutches of Bizarro World. At last we have Fujii vs Aguilar. What should have been the real Bellator 115lb Women's Tournament Championship fight in 2010 will finally come to fruition at Bellator 69 on May 18th. The scene of battle will take place at the L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Although this is not an official championship fight, it indeed has all the components of one. Reaching well beyond the walls of Bellator, this is one of the most anticipated 115lb women's bout in the world. The match-up that took an unexpected detour back in 2010, the match-up that should have been but never was... until now...
