Supplement questions
« on: June 04, 2010, 03:12:18 AM »

Looking to see if anyone here has any opinion on different types of protein supplements. What do you feel is the best and why? What advantages one brand or type may have over another etc?
Also, if you have any suggestions on a creatine supplement and if any different type is more effective than another. Thanks for the input.

Most protien supps. are the same pend your taste likes. Whey comes in a few diffrence forms all coming from milk. Also Casins have a few diffrent forms, also coming from milk. Soy is bean protien. Try so research on bodybuilding.com it has just about every thing you want to know about supps.

Personally I us Whey protien Isolate, Kre-alkalyn, Gluta-lyn and Orange Traid. The are made by Scifit and Controled Labs. Good products and good prices. I take these supps twice a day. once in the early day and again after training or before I go to bed.

Creatine monohydrate is the best from my own experience. Now they have it mixed with all sorts of fancy man-made word chemicl names and also other forms of creatine but if I had to bet my money I'd say most of that is bullshit stuf that doesnt work and you'd be throwin money down the toilet.  Besides straight up creatine in the loading phase can stack 8-10 lbs on you in just 1 week and you will be noticeably stronger. So what are other these other versions with extra additive going to to do.. put 15lbs on you in 1 week? blahahahahaha.

You want to be sure to take at least 5 grams of creatine per serving.

You can get straight creatine monohydrate powder and mix it with grape juice or go with EAS Phosphagen creatine monohydrate which already has dextrose sugar added the mix and you only need to add water to the powder.

If you get straight creatine monohydrate powder do not mix it with soda, tea, coffe, milk, juices that contain "high fructose corn syrup" is also a no-no. Besides, just a general FYI high fructose corn syrup should be avoided at all cost in any diet.

The reason you want to mix it with grape juice is because the fructose (fructose is NOT the same as "high fructose corn syrup") and sucrose sugars help your muscles absorb more creatain. Whereas if you drink it with just water,  not as much creatine gets absorbed per serving.  But water is better than tea and soda etc.

Now with all of that said i take creatine monohydrate pwder in capsules and swallow the with a glass of grape juice or water. I used to drink the pwders but they are soooooooo gritty.... I cant take it. So I use capsules.... not tablets.but im sure the tablets are fine.

I did try GNC"s Amplified Creatine 189.  It is creatine hydrochloride. States it has the power of 5g of monohydrate in 1.2 g of hydrochloride due to a better absorption. It was a big waste of money. Just stick with the mohohydrate versions.  I buy the Vitamin Shoppe BodyTech brand capsules.

Before you conisder supplements the most important thing is to eat and eat a lot. You should be eating 6 meals a day, 5 at the least. Two of those can be a protein shake or weight gain shake.

here's what u need to gain weight.
1. lots of food (at least 1.5 grams of protein per lb of body weight, 140 x 1.5 = 210g protein a day)
2. creatine monohydrate
3. multi-vitamin (although if you eat lots and lots of fruits and vegetables a MV really isn't necessary)
4. whey protein powder or weight gain powder (a straight protein powder and blend it with bananas and strawberrys is probably better than a weight gainer. weight gain powders can be hard on the stomach. but try both and see what works better for you)
