Had a good day and thought I would share it with you guys.
Went to our weekend open mat this afternoon. Met a new guy that has started to roll at our school on the weekend. Didn't catch where he trains, or even his last name. But he introduced himself as Donnie. He has his brown belt in BJJ in the Gracie system. Rolled with him a couple of times, he tapped me basically whenever he wanted. But he showed so many things it was ridiculous. He did give me a compliment, said that I moved really good for a big guy. Wife got upset at that, but then I explained to her that as I am walking around at 220 lbs right now I am bigger than most proffessional fighters... that calmed her a bit.
Then rolled with our assistant instructor Curtis. Curtis is a little guy, but he has pretty good techique and has cardio all day. I was just wanting to work my transitions and defense and Curtis was happy to oblige. We rolled for a solid 5 minutes (which is pretty good for me) for I started getting tired and ended up catching Curtis in a pretty tight triangle. After we were done Curtis came up and talked to me for minute. Said that the next time we rolled he wanted to tape it. Said that we were both hitting some pretty slick transistions and that he was suprised and how my cardio is coming along. I was really happy that he noticed and gave me some "props".
Finished up rolling with Garet. Again Garet is a little guy that has no throttle he goes full speed all day long. Again went quite a few minutes for my big butt. He was more than happy to help me work on my sub defense!!! I think in 4+ minutes we rolled I defended about 20 seperate attempts!!! We basically got called on time, but I was in a superior position when the coaches called it.
Meanwhile while I am doing my thing, my wife and my son who is up for the summer were working the pads. Near the end Curtis showed my 2 "little ones" a bag drill. They both had fun and actually pounded the bag for quite a few minutes! Sadly they won't have any kinda opportunity to train or roll when they go back to their mom at the end of summer...
Anywho that is about it. Finished our day going to the game store, so a great day all around!!!

That was a good day. Sounds like you're on the up swing. Unfortunetlay for me the last 2 weeks I have been at a plateau or maybe even going backwards

How many hours is the open mat there?

Normal schedule is open mat from 12-2 on sat. They normally don't have a prob running longer unless there is something else going (i.e. private lessons, personal life), but always at least 2 hours. Weekend crowds have been kinda small recently, and has normally been the same couple of folks. I always love rolling with new people so I would love for you to come check it out, talk to the instructors, maybe roll a little bit!
