Intro CWH
« on: April 26, 2012, 01:50:32 AM »

Hello from a BJJ noob.

I didn't see a mandatory Intro thread, but figured it would be polite to introduce myself before jumping into any posts here.

I go by CWH in most forums. I'm 31 years old from Orlando, FL. I live in Minneola.

I'm a former active duty U.S. Marine and Iraqi war vet. I currently work as a Federal Corrections Officer.

My martial arts background isn't overly extensive. I was a brown belt in Marine Corps MCMAP, studied Kajukenbo and made it to yellow belt, and took a month of Aikido before I got bored with that.

I now study at Gracie Barra Orlando at it's down town location under Marcio Simas. I'm 2 weeks out from completing the 8 week fundamentals course to receive my first stripe on my white belt. I'm looking forward to this because I'm eager to get into the advanced classes.

Thanks in advance if you took the time to read this.

Welcome to the board CWH. First off thanks for your service!

What is Marine Corps MCMAP by the way? Also there is another former Marine on here. His name is Sinner. I'm sure he will chime in soon. And and army guy too.

MCMAP is Marine Corp Martial Arts Program. It is almost similar to BJJ, but they focus alot on hand to hand. I was just a tan belt, but us Navy folks did not have to participate :)

Thank you. And if I may,

Here is a few links on the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program

I wanted to get into the MACE (Martial Arts Center of Excellence) when I was in, I just never made it before I got out, the waiting list was way too long.

I wanted to keep going but the SSGT who was running the program stopped letting the Navy participate. I think he was jealous that we had more people showing up voluntarily hahaha.

What up this is the other prior Marine running around in here. Well there might be more but they are all secret squirreled up I guess.
I was a brown belt as well in MCMAP and I hear you about  MACE. I missed it when they were mobile and came out to Camp Pendleton...deployed you know how it goes.
I also train at Gracie Barra up here in Jacksonville. Hope to see you sometime! We come down there and sometimes guys stop by our place. As you know you're more than welcome to stop through anytime your up our way.

Orahh!

Thanks for the welcome!

My wife is from Jacksonville/Orange Park area. I use to be stationed at Blount Island Command up there. I make it up there from time to time since I also have an aunt that lives off Normandy.

I was MCMAP black belt ready. There was a 1stLt red stripe black belt that use to teach Sgts and above in our Bn's MCMAP room twice a week during lunch time (1130-1300). I never formaly tested.

Yeah, if you ever wander in to the downtown Gracie Barra, I'm not hard to spot. I resemble Stone Cold Steve Austin.
