Sprints
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:24:58 PM »

I just recently started incorporating sprints into my daily run. I have noticed that I sprint alot faster and longer now. It is funny I can hear my shoes gripping as I push as hard as I can, it makes me want to run harder. Before when I would sprint I would try to bring my legs up and down as hard as I could, but now I realized that I need to stretch them out as far as possible while pushing them down hard. Haha 30 years old and I just figured out how to sprint.

I need to start doing these too. It does improve your speed for sure.

Instead of doing them at the end of my run I am now dedicating at least one day a week solely to sprints. There is a baseball field close to my house, the field is set up for little league so I think the bases are 60 feet apart. I sprint from home to second then a light, it gets even lighter the more I go, jog to home, then sprint to second and son on. I run the bases eight times, which should equal a mile. So half a mile of sprints and half a mile of jogging. Then a nice relaxing three mile bike ride back to the house for some tiger balm :)

That's actually a good work out. Its an HIIT and if you do that around the bases for about 15 -30 minutes your body will continue to burn fat for up to 38 hours later. It's called the afterburner effect.

no it takes me around 30 minutes to ride my bike there and back and run. The run is only about 15 minutes, only because by the sixth time around my jog becomes more of a shuffle.

Well as long at your doing the sprint for 30sec then walk for 30; then sprint for 30sec then walk for 30sec... over and over for at least 15 minutes then you will reach that after burner effect and continue to burn fat for the next 38 hours.
